- What are RAM prices today?
- The table above shows the latest tracked levels for retail DDR5 kits and the DDR5/DDR4 dies underneath them, with 30-day and year-over-year change. Retail kit pricing follows the die contract market with roughly a four to eight week lag, so the die rows are the leading indicator.
- Why is RAM so expensive right now?
- HBM for AI accelerators consumes roughly three times the wafer area per shipped bit versus commodity DDR5. Every wafer converted to HBM removes several times more mainstream bits from supply, so effective industry bit output is shrinking even as wafer starts rise.
- When will RAM prices go down?
- New DRAM capacity takes seven to nine quarters from tool-in to meaningful bit output, and most of it is earmarked for HBM. Watch the 30-day column and the change chart here — a sustained negative 30-day print across DDR5 dies is the first real signal of a turn.
