HBM4 PRICE · 48GB STACK

HBM4 price — 48GB stack cost and premium over HBM3E

The next high bandwidth memory generation, priced per stack and per gigabyte.

Quick answer: as of 2026-08-28, HBM3 24GB 12-Hi Stack is $200.40 USD / stack, +0.01% over 30 days and +4.00% year over year. Across the 4 contracts tracked on this page the basket is +2.31% over 30 days and +124.50% year over year.

HBM4 widens the interface to 2048 bits and adds a logic base die, moving part of the stack onto a foundry logic process. That changes the cost structure of high bandwidth memory and pulls a second supply chain — advanced packaging and foundry — into memory pricing.

SK hynix drops 5% after approving $38B of new memory fabs; Seagate falls 7%

Memory and storage names sold off after SK hynix approved a $38B fab program, with investors reading the spend as the first credible path back to oversupply. New front-end capacity takes 7-9 quarters to produce bits, so the risk lands in 2027-28, not this quarter.

CXMT eyes a second Beijing DRAM plant as China pushes toward Micron-scale output

CXMT is reported to be planning a second Beijing DRAM fab, targeting output approaching Micron's by late 2026. Chinese commodity DDR4/DDR5 supply is the single largest downside risk to the conventional-DRAM price curve.

FAQ

What is the HBM4 price?
As of 1970-01-01 the tracked HBM4 48GB stack level and its per-GB equivalent are in the table above. HBM4 is priced in forward allocation negotiations roughly a year ahead of shipment, so the level reflects contract economics, not a tradeable spot market.
How much more expensive is HBM4 than HBM3E?
The comparison table on this page shows the current premium per stack and per GB. HBM4 doubles the interface width and adds a logic base die, both of which raise cost before yield effects are counted.
Why does HBM4 cost so much?
A 2048-bit interface, a custom logic base die often built on a foundry logic node, more stacked dies, and hybrid bonding at the leading edge. Each of those steps has lower yield than the equivalent in HBM3E, and advanced packaging capacity is the binding constraint industry-wide.
When does HBM4 ramp in volume?
HBM4 is ramping into next-generation accelerator platforms, with supplier qualification the gating factor rather than raw wafer capacity. Watch the 30-day column here against HBM3E: the two converging is the signal that HBM4 supply has caught up with the platform ramp.
Who will supply HBM4?
SK hynix, Samsung and Micron are all qualifying HBM4, with foundry partnerships for the logic base die reshaping the competitive order. The manufacturer leaderboard tracks HBM share and capex for each.
